FAQs
- Why are you called LAYLOO?
LAYLOO is at the heart of my business and its purpose – to bring myself and others JOY through design. Solving creative problems makes me ha-LAYLOO-ya!
LAYLOO is run by me, Liane Milchem. You’ll always get straight through to me, and me alone – no account handlers or switchboards!
- What do you do?
In simple terms my role is one of creative director, designer, artworker and project manager – sometimes a copywriter too!
Essentially what I do is find new and effective ways to communicate a message, so an audience can best understand it, or engage with it or get excited about it. This can be done through creating a visual language (an identity) or imagery, typography or compelling copy (I’m partial to a bit of copywriting) and the format all adds to the impact it has.
The way this manifests itself can be many, and I can help with most, if not all of them. Take a look at what I can offer here. For anything out of the realm of my abilities, I work with some brilliant, and talented partners.
- What does integrated mean?
Being integrated means I can design and manage a project which spans multiple deliverables across print, digital and events, for example. This is great from a branding perspective as it means everything works across the board, and it’s great for you from a management perspective as you have one port of call for all your projects.
For instance, if you are exhibiting at an event, I can help you not only with your event stand, but the marketing materials in the lead up such as invitations (printed and/or email). I can also help with branded giveaway ideas and the sourcing of these, as well as other branded materials such as a brand video.
- Do you do printing?
I don’t personally print any products, nor do I do any other manufacturing, but I have great connections with people that do. I’m happy to source prices for you and facilitate the sending of files direct, to make the process super easy for you.
- Why should I choose you?
Simple answer: I love what I do, and that love means I don’t stop until I find the perfect solution. I have a logical passion for design, it’s not the diva kind, but the level-headed kind (most of the time ;-) ) The pleasure I get from design is from solving problems, not artistic expression.
Competition is fierce in this industry. I can talk about my 12 years experience and the clients I have worked with, however it ultimately comes down to personality. Communication is key to what I do, ensuring I understand you and your brief, and in turn you understand my process is vital. If you share my values, and like what you see, we’ll work well together like peanut butter and jam, or peas and carrots, or macaroni and cheese – whichever takes your fancy… I’m hungry now!
- When can I get hold of you?
The bulk of my client work is done over Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. I also work evenings and weekends, so don’t worry if you get an email from me at random times.
I work flexible hours however I’m never far from my phone, so I still pick emails up.
- Can I still get in touch with you on the days you don’t work?
Absolutely! I regularly check emails, and always try and respond to queries within 24 hours, usually sooner. If you need to speak to me, you can leave a voicemail, or I may be able to answer.
- How will we communicate?
I’m happy to receive emails at liane@layloo.co.uk, or you can reach me through Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn or do it old school and call me on 07791392150 and - I love a natter!
- Do you offer design ‘packages’?
I don’t currently offer design packages, as I prefer a more personal approach. I prefer to discuss your business objective – what is going to bring you JOY – and go from there. If you fill in the form on the contact page I can send you some options.
- What do you charge?
I quote on a project-by-project basis, as each will differ in strategy. My approach is a strategic one, so it’s not just the time involved in designing that is taken into account.
Quoting hourly doesn’t fully reflect what goes into a project as it’s not just the ‘doing’ that takes time; Strategic thinking is built into all my projects and I put extensive thought into a project. I also allow for my overheads, be they minimal, and admin time.
I quote fairly, and as accurately as possible but I’m always more than happy to discuss a quote and alternative options.
- Response and turnaround times
I try and respond to email queries within 24 hours. Quotes may take a little longer. I understand the fast-paced nature of most businesses, and that opportunities can arise suddenly where you need to produce work quickly, so I try and get back to you as soon as possible.
I generally require a minimum of two weeks notice in order for me to successfully schedule work, and turnaround times depend on the project scope.
Rush jobs and requests for projects needing completion over evenings, weekends or public holidays will be quoted at a premium. I consider a rush job to be 48 hours notice.
